Fill out an application Juma's program offers a variety of programs and services, including: Employment / Job Skills Training: Juma's youth participants receive part-time jobs in our concession businesses at ATT and Monster Park in SF, Oracle Arena and Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, Cal Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, Qualcomm in San Diego and Nationals Stadium in D.C. Each youth starts in one of three jobs - as a vendor, scooper, or barista, selling coffee or ice-cream - and participates in a job skills training program, beginning with work readiness training and progressing to more advanced levels of training as appropriate. Once youth have demonstrated responsibility and a willingness to learn, they are given the opportunity to be promoted into supervisory roles, as peer leaders, cart supervisors, and operations coordinators. After an initial training period, youth earn can earn pay raises with promotions into positions of additional responsibility. Today, Juma's businesses are virtually run by youth who have progressed into supervisor and assistant manager roles providing day-to-day business management. Financial Planning: Juma offers Individual Development Accounts (IDA) for youth - which provides an opportunity to open a savings account and save money from paychecks for college and other expenses. To date, Juma's youth participants have opened more than 653 Individual Development Accounts (IDA). As of July 2008, Juma's youth have saved more than $656,491.86 of their earnings toward future plans, and accessed more than $843,669.96 in matching funds toward asset purchases such as, micro-enterprise expenses and home purchases. College & Career Advancement:Juma also helps youth develop plans for college and careers through workshops, field trips to college campuses, career tours with local companies, and individual counseling. Juma helps youth develop their own personal vision for the future assists them in developing educational and vocational goals, and then supports them in taking whatever next steps are appropriate. Life Skills: As a part of Juma's program, youth learn about making decisions that help them stay healthy. Juma provides workshops about nutrition and exercise, education about substance use, sex and relationships, information on civic engagement, and guidance around handling stress. |
