About Juma Ventures

Juma was founded in 1993 with a single Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream franchise in San Francisco that provided a handful of job opportunities to homeless youth. Since then, Juma has grown from a job-training and placement program serving 25 youth to a comprehensive youth development program operating seven social enterprises in four cities (New York, Oakland, San Diego and San Francisco) that help more than 700 disadvantaged youth annually to realize their goals for success in adulthood and post-secondary education. Since 1993, Juma has served more than 2,800 students who have earned in excess of $3 million in wages.

Juma’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty by ensuring that youth complete a four-year college education. Juma strives to be a best in class, high impact agency. Juma has received numerous awards for its work including the National Youth Employment Coalition’s PEPNet Award and a Community Achievement Award as the national organization of the year from the Social Enterprise Alliance.
