Development Manager
Role Overview:
The Development Manager is part of the development team and will help secure $3.8 million in contributed revenue in 2012. Under limited supervision, the Development Manager is responsible for managing relationships with Juma’s institutional funders, including private foundations, corporations, and public agencies. This position supervises the Development Associate and reports directly to the Chief Development Officer.
Specific Job Duties:
- Manage donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategy for grants. Identify potential funding resources. Track current grant cycles and renewal processes and ensure stewardship to guarantee continued funding.
- Manage grant proposal and report calendar. Maintain current pipeline to reflect all grant activity.
- Initiate, draft, edit and deliver proposals to foundations and corporations, working in collaboration with program, finance, and evaluation staff.
- Oversee narrative and financial reporting to foundation and corporate donors by tracking reporting needs, deadlines, and action items. Support evaluation staff to ensure that data tools allow for efficient reporting.
- Lead efforts on data analysis and ensure consistency between grant commitments and monthly progress on agency outcomes/performance indicators through active partnership with the Evaluation Manager.
- Supervise consultants supporting institutional fundraising and coordinate with department colleagues as appropriate.
- Participate with development and leadership staff in developing and implementing strategy for effective communication and fundraising.
- Advocate for and represent Juma in various community forums and meetings with current and prospective funders.
Key Experience & Strengths:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with budgeting and budget development. Basic financial management skills.
- Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills.

- Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office and the Windows environment; proficiency in relational databases a plus.

- Strong commitment to supporting youth and to advancing social justice.
Preferred:
- Understanding of funding landscape and previous relationships with local funders a plus.
- Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills and experience in implementation of community-based evaluation.

Learning & Evaluation Associate
Role Overview:
The Learning & Evaluation Associate will be responsible for assisting the Manager of Learning and Evaluation with day-to-day monitoring and evaluation of youth activities at Juma. The L & E Associate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of data tracked in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database system, and ensuring consistent delivery of the Juma program model across all sites. The L & E Associate will also assist with designing and administering youth and staff program evaluations, promote youth and community involvement in evaluation and learning and strengthen the capacity of Juma to measure and document youth needs, interventions and outcomes. The position reports to the Manager of Learning & Evaluation.
The ideal candidate will be genuinely enthusiastic about data and have experience with ETO Software.
Specific Job Duties:
- Provide data entry support: entering IDA Savings, Wages Earned, youth demographics, and occasional workshop and ballpark attendance information.
- Assist staff with data integrity and timeliness of data entry with weekly reminders and by producing standard ETO reports.
- Perform Efforts To Outcomes site administration and maintenance. Keep ETO & reports manuals updated to reflect changes to the ETO database interface & use patterns.
- Set and manage deadlines for completion of youth assessments, and generate reports on completion.
- Proactively review data for errors, and to ensure that programming is delivered according to Juma’s model.
- Provide support with the ETO User Manual and with direct training support for staff use of the ETO site.
- Create, edit and run custom reports to meet staff and agency needs.
- Collaborate with Development staff to ensure accurate and complete data is collected and analyzed for reporting and fund development purposes.
- Assist with the design of specific data collection instruments such as surveys and assessments, specifically the Youth Satisfaction Survey.
- Solicit youth input on all assessments of skill development at Juma, including education, life skills, financial literacy and professional skills.
- Promote culture of learning and reflection among the Juma staff and participants, including the Juma Leadership Committee.
- Other duties as relevant and assigned.
Key Experience & Strengths:
Required:
- Ability to create easily usable and understandable documents for use by staff and youth using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to make effective presentations and engage in easily understandable dialogues about projects and results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort holding staff and youth accountable to use patterns and data entry protocol.
- Demonstrated respect for and interest in youth leadership.
- Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve shared goals.
- High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
- Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
- Be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check.
Preferred:
- Bachelor Degree optional, experience in social science field preferred.
- Data entry and/or quality assurance experience preferred.
- Strong, demonstrable skills in statistical packages, databases and word processing (familiarity with ETO and/or Business Objects strongly preferred)
